History
Amul, short for Anand Milk Union Limited, was founded on December 14, 1946, by Tribhuvandas Patel. But besides Amul’s fascinating success, there is a union of farmers who made it possible. In the 1940s, milk producers in the town of Anand, Gujarat, faced exploitation by middlemen who controlled the milk trade. The farmer with their complaints went to the freedom fighter Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel then as per his suggestion and support the farmers organised themselves into cooperative societies to collectively procure and market milk.

Founder
Founded on December 14, 1946, Amul does not have particular Founders but there are these key people who play a big role in establishing Amul.
Born on October 22, 1903, Tribhuvandas Patel, a social activist and freedom fighter, played a crucial role in organising milk producers in the town of Anand, Gujarat, in the 1940s. He rallied farmers to address their common challenges and fight against the exploitation of middlemen in the milk trade. His leadership and dedication laid the foundation for the cooperative movement that eventually led to the formation of Amul.
Born on November 26, 1921, Dr Verghese Kurien was an engineer and manager. Dr Kurien’s expertise in dairy technology and his visionary approach revolutionised the dairy industry in India. He played a pivotal role in expanding Amul’s operations and implementing innovative dairy processing techniques.
