Radhika Apte discusses her interest in sex comedies after appearing in Varun Dhawan’s Badlapur in an interview. While she stated that she has no objections to the genre, she believes that such films are derogatory to women. She has stated that she will not take part in projects that celebrate women’s jokes.
In Badlapur, Radhika Apte plays Vinay Pathak’s wife. In one scene, she strips naked in order to save her husband from Varun Dhawan. Radhika claimed she was approached after the film’s release for roles in sex comedies, which she denied.
“I believe a couple of sex comedies were offered to me after Badlapur,” Radhika said when asked why she would turn down a big-budget film. I have no problem with sex comedies. Hunterrr (2015) could be classified as a sex comedy as well. However, the type of sex comedies that have previously been produced can be very derogatory to women and very objectified. They objectify women, and the satire irritates me. As a result, I avoid doing it.”
Radhika went on to say that for big-budget films, timing is often an issue. She went on to say that the script heavily influences the intention of a sex-comedy film. “If you read the script, you’ll know what the movie is about.” And the kind of jokes that are told. I don’t mind a film in which a chauvinist male character makes sexist jokes about women. But you’re trying to show something else; there’s a story behind it, and it transforms into something else. But if you start making a movie out of those jokes, I’m not going to be a part of it,” she reasoned.
Radhika Apte was most recently seen in the film Vikram Vedha, alongside Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan. In the film, she played Saif’s wife, a lawyer by profession. Her next appearance will be in Monica, O My Darling, a Netflix original film.
