Kritika Kamra is the proverbial “outsider” in the entertainment industry, having come from a completely non-filmy background. Kritika has worked in the television, film, and web industries for over a decade and has experienced many highs and lows. The actor discussed nepotism in the industry in a recent interview, agreeing that it exists in the same way that it does in any other industry.
For a long time, the nepotism debate in Bollywood has raged, with many critics blaming star children for ‘preventing’ outsiders from breaking into the industry. Kritika, who made her film debut with Mitron in 2018, stated that she was aware of nepotism in the industry but was not affected by it.
“It’s a real thing in every industry, everywhere,” she told Pinkvilla of nepotism. There is always some form of favouritism and nepotism.” The actor went on to say that she had not “suffered” as a result of it, but that she had lost her fair share of opportunities as a result of it. “I’m not sure how you handle it. You are not a victim. At least, not in my opinion, but I believe that there are times when casting is closed to other people because the producers would rather cast someone they know or have a soft spot for. This type of thing occurs. However, there is ample opportunity for people to test for and obtain items. Everything I’m doing at the moment is justified. As a result, these opportunities are available,” she added.
Kritika shifted to web series after the pandemic, making her OTT debut with the Prime Video show Tandav last year. She has already appeared in two shows this year, Kaun Banegi Shikharwati on Zee5 and Hush Hush on Prime Video. She will next be seen with Pratik Gandhi in an untitled Netflix project.
