24th March, Mumbai: According to an official statement on Wednesday, a former driver of the 76-year-old father of singer Sonu Nigam has been accused of stealing Rs 72 lakh from the senior citizen’s home in Mumbai.
Between March 19 and March 20, an alleged theft occurred at the residence of Agamkumar Nigam, who is the father of the singer Sonu Nigam, located in the Windsor Grand building in Oshiwara, Andheri west
Early on Wednesday, Nikita, Sonu Nigam’s younger sister, filed a complaint about the alleged theft at the Oshiwara police station, as per the official.
The official stated that, according to the complaint, Agamkumar had employed a driver named Rehan for approximately 8 months, but dismissed him recently due to his unsatisfactory performance.
According to the complaint, on Sunday afternoon (March 19), Agamkumar went to Nikita’s house in Versova for lunch and returned later. Later that evening, he called his daughter and told her that Rs 40 lakh was absent from a digital locker that was kept in a wooden cupboard, as stated by the official.
The official stated that on the following day, Agamkumar went to his son’s residence in 7 Bungalows for visa-related work and returned in the evening. When he arrived back home, he discovered that an additional Rs 32 lakh was missing from the locker, which had not been tampered with.
The official mentioned that, based on the complaint, Agamkumar and Nikita reviewed the CCTV footage from their residential complex, which revealed their former driver, Rehan, carrying a bag and heading towards Agamkumar’s apartment on both days when he was absent. Agamkumar suspects that Rehan used a duplicate key to enter the flat and steal Rs 72 lakh from the digital locker in the bedroom, according to the official.
The official stated that an FIR has been filed by the Oshiwara police based on Nikita’s complaint, under sections 380, 454, and 457 of the Indian Penal Code for theft, house trespassing, and housebreaking. The official also confirmed that an investigation into the matter is currently ongoing.
