25th June 2023,Mumbai: Former R&AW Chief Vikram Sood has stated he would prefer not to waste time seeing Pathaan months after its release, which is still the greatest box office hit of the year so far. He stated that Bollywood espionage films should be entertaining while remaining realistic. But he claimed to enjoy Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger and recommended it as a model for how future espionage flicks ought to be produced.
Shah Rukh Khan played an R&AW agent in the movie Pathaan. Deepika Padukone played an ISI agent, while John Abraham played a former R&AW agent who had gone rogue. Over Rs. 1000 crore was the film’s total international take.Vikram Sood expressed his dissatisfaction with films like Pathaan in an interview, a snippet of which was posted on Reddit, and claimed, “I think we don’t have the art to execute this. They have room to improve. These can be realistic, but they’re not.”
He responded, “You are trying to make a James Bond movie, which is also not realistic,” when pressed to clarify on his ‘not realistic’ remark. “Then there is the tale of the ISI girl and the R&AW man having a happy ending.
Yaar, take a break (laughs). The atmosphere overall…Pathaan is a movie I haven’t seen and won’t see since I don’t think it’s… It is not a true representation. Why would I waste my time? However, Vikram Sood said that he had seen the 2012 movie Ek Tha Tiger, starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. Not because it represented anything, but just because it was so cute, he added, “I laughed and I enjoyed that.”
He mentioned that Salman Khan was travelling through a tunnel to Pakistan to deliver a girl who had been abandoned in India even though he couldn’t remember the name of Salman’s other big-budget film, Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Theek hai yaar. Thoda overstate… You must have enjoyable and realistic entertainment.
He did suggest that viewers watch Tom Hanks’ 2015 movie Bridge of Spies. “That is a genuine film. Real espionage films are produced in this manner. It entails dealing with the truth as it is, not making assumptions based on speculation or hearsay, and leading a solitary life.
One espionage movie after another is being produced in the meantime, along with other online series. Shah Rukh Khan will make a comeback with Jawan in September, while Salman Khan will make a comeback with Tiger 3 this year. Heart of Stone, a Hollywood spy movie starring Alia Bhatt, will debut on Netflix soon. The Indian season of the web series Citadel is now in production with Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Varun Dhawan. Tehran, a movie starring John Abraham, and Kandahar, a recent international release by Ali Fazal, are also included.
