Kannada film Kantara is proving to be the type of sleeper hit that is hard to come by in this day and age of OTT. Kantara is becoming more powerful by the day, at a time when films are being pulled from theatres within days of their initial release. On its first day, the Hindi version of the film grossed approximately Rs 1.27 crore. It has earned approximately Rs 2 crore on day eight, which is roughly twice the amount earned on the first day. With the upcoming Diwali holidays, the film’s box office performance is expected to remain strong.
According to reports, the Hindi version of the film has earned more than Rs 15 crore and is on its way to crossing the Rs 20 crore mark. Despite competition from Ayshmann Khurrana’s Doctor G (which grossed around Rs 21 crore in its opening weekend) and Hollywood release Black Adam, this commendable performance in the Hindi belt is noteworthy (which grossed around Rs 11 crore in two days).
Meanwhile, the Kannada version of the film crossed the Rs 100 crore mark on October 15. After the release of the Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu versions, the film easily surpassed the Rs 150 crore mark. It is now approaching the Rs 200 core level and is expected to exceed it during the Diwali holidays.
Kantara was directed by Rishab Shetty and starred Kishore and Sathami Gowda on a shoestring budget of approximately Rs 15 crore. It is now Kannada’s third highest-grossing film, trailing only the KGF films.
