Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut, who is the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) contender for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, has leveled a harsh criticism at the Indian National Congress. The well-known actress compared Congress to the nepotism that she has been fighting against in Bollywood.
Kangana’s Charges
“I have always found the Congress to be an awful party. I have been deeply troubled by the party’s prevailing nepotism because I have experienced the same system in my line of work. I have fought against it and voiced my opposition to it. Anything that took advantage of me: dynastic politics, clique politics, nepotism… I detest this gathering,” said Kangana.
In an interview with Times Now, the actress was asked to sum up the Gandhi siblings in one phrase, to which she replied, “Nepo kids.” “They are bizarre, as if they have landed from Mars,” she stated.
Kangana has been an outspoken opponent of Bollywood nepotism. In a 2016 episode of the chat show Koffee with Karan Season 5, she made headlines by referring to filmmaker Karan Johar as the “flag-bearer of nepotism”.
Congress vs Kangana
Kangana became embroiled in a scandal earlier this week when it was revealed that she would be running for the Lok Sabha seat. Social media profiles belonging to Congress leader Supriya Shrinate made a divisive remark about her. “Mandi mein aajkal bhaav kya chal raha hai?” was the post’s subject line. (What is the Mandi current rate?).
After a backlash, Supriya took down the divisive comments from all of her social media profiles, stating that someone else with access to her accounts had posted them instead of her. In a protest to the lieutenant governor, BJP leader Bansuri Swaraj had asked for an inquiry and the filing of a formal charge against Supriya for allegedly “outraging the modesty of a woman.”
The person who posted the aforementioned content on social media and whose phone was used for it will also be investigated by Delhi Police.
Kangana is currently getting ready for her first solo film, Emergency, in which she will play Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi’s grandmother, former prime minister Indira Gandhi.
Kangana’s Path to Politics
Recently, there has been a lot of debate around Kangana’s foray into politics. Reactions from all points of view have been provoked by her nomination as the BJP’s candidate for the Mandi seat in Himachal Pradesh in the next Lok Sabha elections. But the actress doesn’t seem to be phased by the issues and is up for the task.
Kangana’s Resistance to Nepotism
It’s common knowledge that Kangana has battled nepotism in the entertainment industry. Discussions over the pervasiveness of nepotism in Bollywood have been sparked by her charges against well-known individuals such as Karan Johar. She is still speaking out against nepotism as a political candidate, but now she is focusing on the Congress party and its officials.
The Siblings Gandhi: “Nepo Babies”
The actress was asked to characterize Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, and she did not hold back. She called them “nepo babies,” making it seem as though they are the offspring of nepotism. A new round of conversations concerning Indian dynasty politics has been triggered by this remark.
