10th June 2023, Mumbai: Twisted Metal, a post-apocalyptic action-comedy television series, will debut on July 27, 2023. The Anthony Mackie-starring movie is a live-action rendition of the same-named PlayStation video game franchise. The Marvel star plays John Doe in the teaser for the 10-episode Peacock series. In the series’ teaser, Mackie starts his car, loads his shotgun, selects a Road Mix CD, and then he addresses the camera, “Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines.” He cranks up the music, gets into a groove, and then gets in his car and drives off. The next scene in the teaser depicts a post-apocalyptic Las Vegas, where a mystery, shirtless man wearing a clown mask is seen standing inside an ice cream truck and raising the shutter.
A “motor-mouthed outsider” who is “offered a chance at a better life” must first “deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland” in the half-hour live-action series, which is billed as “a high-octane action comedy.” “With the aid of a badass axe-wielding car thief, he will face savage marauders, driving vehicles of destruction, and other dangers of the open road,” the description continues, “including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.” On July 27, 2023, the series is scheduled to premiere on Peacock.
The 10-episode series, which was filmed in New Orleans from May to August 2022, also stars Thomas Haden Church as Agent Stone and Stephanie Beatriz as Quiet. Will Arnett provides the bizarre character’s voice, even though professional wrestler Samoa Joe portrays Sweet Tooth, also known as the clown masked man. Loud is portrayed in the series by Richard Cabral. Sweet Tooth beats John Doe in a battle in a sneak peek scene from Peacock, but “Sisqó’s Thong Song brings them together.” In September 2021, Mackie’s casting was first made public.
“We’re overjoyed to welcome Anthony Mackie to the team. Asad Qizilbash, president of PlayStation Productions, told Deadline, “His ability to merge comedy, action, and drama is appropriate for the Twisted world we’re developing. According to Glenn Adilman, EVP Comedy Development at Sony TV, “We’ve been big fans of Anthony’s phenomenal body of work over the years and knew he was the only actor who could play a character as complex, funny, and compelling as John Doe.” According to the character description, Mackie plays “a smart-ass milkman who talks as fast as he drives.”
