17th March, Mumbai: Henry Cavill, formerly of Man of Steel and The Witcher fame, has released the first image from his next World War II action spy movie, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Cavill posted a vintage, black-and-white picture of his character as a black ops soldier on social media alongside his coworkers, who were portrayed by Reacher actor Alan Ritchson, Magic Mike actor Alex Pettyfer, The Woman King actor Hero Fiennes, and Henry Golding from The Gentleman.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which Guy Ritchie, the director of Sherlock Holmes and The Gentlemen, and Arash Amel co-wrote the script for, is based on actual events and describes the World War II strategies developed by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and author and James Bond creator Ian Fleming. The project review in the study states that the clandestine squad’s unconventional and entirely “ungentlemanly” combat strategies against the Nazis “helped turn the course of the war” and “gave origin to the current Black Ops unit” in part.
Damien Lewis, a combat correspondent and military historian, wrote a book in 2015 that will serve as the basis for the upcoming film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. According to sources, the movie will be similar to filmmaker Quentin Tarantino’s 2009 World War II film Inglourious Basterds, and this first look image gives us our first peek at the group of “colourful individuals” that will populate the film.
Eiza Gonzales, who is known for acting in Bloodshot and Ambulance, will be portraying thr character of a military sniper with spy abilities.
Cary Elwes, Babs Olusanmokun, Til Schweiger, Henrique Zaga, and Mohammad Nour Hakmi alongside Henry Cavill, Eiza González, Alan Ritchson, Henry Golding, Alex Pettyfer, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin, are the full cast members. No release date has been set for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, but according to rumours, director Guy Ritchie hopes it will start an action franchise.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is only one of the upcoming projects for Cavill, who will also appear as another spy in the upcoming film Argylle from filmmaker Matthew Vaughn. Argylle discovers Cavill’s spy suffering from amnesia and deceived into thinking he is a best-selling espionage novelist in this additional possible franchise beginning. Of course, as soon as his memories and deadly abilities return, he begins to seek retribution.
In addition, Cavill will play Geralt of Rivia for the last time in the third season of The Witcher before collaborating with Amazon Studios on a Warhammer 40,000 adaption.
