5th April 2023, Mumbai: The popular HBO series Euphoria’s Kat Hernandez was portrayed by Barbie Ferreira, who recently talked openly about her much-discussed departure from the programme. For the uninitiated, Barbie made her departure from the Sam Levinson programme official in June of last year. There were soon rumours that the actress left the show due to a disagreement with Levison over the course that her character Kat was taking. Kat’s character, according to rumours, was diminished in season 2. One of these rumours even stated that Barbie left the set after a supposed argument with Sam Levinson. She has now responded to the rumours.
On a recent appearance on the Armchair Expert, Barbie Ferreira addressed the rumours surrounding her departure from the Zendaya-starring series Euphoria. Ferreira denied leaving the set. “I once had to have an X-ray after spraining my ankle. Maybe they mean it that way?”, she added.
She went on to say that she no longer wished to play the role of the “fat best friend.” Ferreira remarked, “I don’t think there was anywhere for [Kat] to go. “I believe she had options on where to go. It simply wouldn’t have worked in the show, in my opinion. I’m not sure if it did her justice, and I believe all sides were aware of it. I wished very much that I could stop being the obese best buddy. That’s not something I want to play, and I believe they didn’t either.”
Barbie added that she and Sam Levinson both found Kat’s season 2 plot to be challenging. The actress admitted that it was upsetting, especially to see the fans react negatively. Ferreira added that she thought she may have “overstayed (her) welcome” a bit. She continued, saying it was relieved that neither she nor Levinson needed to be concerned about her character any longer.
Ferreira concluded by saying she didn’t see how Sam related to her character in the show. “Sam writes on topics that are important to him. I don’t think he has any connection to Kat. Kat and I get along, therefore I get to choose my own course. I thought at first, “Oh my God, I’m a failure.” I’ve failed. It has actually been beneficial.”
It’s predicted that the third season of Euphoria will start production later this year, with a likely HBO premiere early the following year.
