Covid-19 has altered our way of life, and James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ is not immune. After contracting Covid-19, the Hollywood filmmaker has opted out of the highly anticipated Avatar 2 premiere in Los Angeles.
Cameron, who has not directed a picture in Hollywood since 2009’s game-changing ‘Avatar,’ is asymptomatic and feeling good, according to ‘Variety.’ He will continue to promote the picture, although in a virtual capacity.
The film’s famous ensemble, which includes Kate Winslet, Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Edie Falco, and Jemaine Clement, will have to suffice for industry executives and lucky fans flooding into the Hollywood and Highland complex Monday night (Pacific Standard Time).
According to ‘Variety,’ James Cameron did attend the film’s international premiere last week in London. His latest film, which premieres this Friday, is expected to end the year on a high note for distributor Disney.
According to reports, the opening weekend box office is expected to be at least $150 million. The film was also released in China, increasing its prospects of success. The film garnered an ecstatic ovation in early media screenings, with superlatives like “phenomenal,” “breathtaking,” and “epic” raining down on it.
According to the synopsis, “the sequel takes place more than a decade after the events of its predecessor and tells the story of ‘the Sully family’ (Jake, Neytiri, and their children), the real difficulty that follows them, the strands they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.”
James Cameron directs Avatar: The Way of Water, which stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaa, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Dileep Rao, and Matt Gerald in characters returning from the original film. Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, and Brendan Cowell all appear.
