In terms of box office success, Ajay Devgn has had a mixed bag of films in 2022. He appeared in SS Rajamouli’s RRR, which fared extremely well at the box office. His following two films, however, flopped: Runway 34 and Thank God. Ajay has made a tremendous comeback with Drishyam 2. During the run of his Drishyam sequel, the actor recently spoke out on how important the box office is to him and his plans to re-release his Eid blockbuster.
For the uninitiated, Ajay directed Runway 34 in addition to playing. It was released on Eid, along with Tiger Shroff’s Heropanti 2. Despite positive word-of-mouth, Runway failed to attract the desired audience, with the film’s niche theme and treatment being cited as the primary reasons. However, it gained a lot of love and respect from fans once it was released on OTT.
Ajay Devgn was questioned about Runway 34’s success on OTT and whether he plans to re-release it in theatres in an interview with ETimes. “Runway 34’s phenomenal run on OTT and the plaudits that followed made me feel partially justified,” Ajay remarked. I was relieved that, as a filmmaker, I had not entirely failed my viewers. I wish it had done well at the box office. As I stated in my previous response, the box office is important.”
Ajay Devgn hinted to a possible re-release of the film in the near future, saying, “However, I would not contemplate (at least not at this time) trying to re-release Runway 34 in theatres.” It is said, “Never say never.” So… who knows?”
Meanwhile, Ajay is riding high after the success of Drishyam 2, which just surpassed the 200 crore nett mark in India.
