5th June 2023, Mumbai: The spellbinding Gujarati supernatural horror thriller film “Vash” is set to receive a Hindi adaptation under the direction of renowned filmmaker Vikas Bahl, known for his outstanding work in movies like “Queen” and “Super 30.” Adding to the excitement, acclaimed actor Ajay Devgn, who is also producing the film alongside Kumar Mangat, will be playing a pivotal role in this highly anticipated project.
However, the journey to find a producer for “Vash,” which ultimately became a massive hit, was not an easy one. And when the film was finally completed, the assigned censor board officer who watched it was taken aback by the terrifying experience.
Kalpesh Soni, a businessman and movie producer, shared, “Given the nature of this film, we knew it wouldn’t be eligible for government subsidies, but we were content with that. Even after we submitted it to the censor board, the woman assigned to review the movie was utterly shocked. She questioned, ‘Why are you subjecting the young girl to such torment?’ She was referring to the actress who portrayed the victim in the film.”
“Vash” delves into the eternal battle between good and evil, with Atharva (played by Hitu Kanodia) and his family embodying the forces of righteousness, while Pratap (portrayed by Hiten Kumar) represents evil. Through its exploration of love, family, and sacrifice, the movie celebrates the triumph of kindness over wickedness, leaving audiences profoundly moved by its powerful message.
Commenting on his role, veteran Gujarati actor Hiten Kumar remarked, “As an actor, some roles tend to scare you, and this was certainly one of them. I have been working in the industry for three decades, but this particular character was different for me since I had to embody viciousness and portray the antagonist. Making a film like this also requires courage, as finding producers for unconventional content can be challenging.”
The inspiration for “Vash” struck director Krishnadev Yagnik while he was on a journey and noticed a car in front of him. Frustrated by his inability to overtake it, he found himself yearning for the power to control the vehicle or possess mystical abilities to make things happen according to his desires. The following day, he conceived the film’s one-liner and eventually developed the script.
To add a playful touch, the filmmakers distributed small boxes of sugar to the attendees at the Ahmedabad premiere, symbolizing that not everyone would find the film to their taste. Yagnik concluded on a lighthearted note.
Given its tremendous success at the box office, the directors hosted a celebratory party in Ahmedabad. The film’s exceptional performance has also paved the way for its Hindi remake, with Ajay Devgn stepping into the lead role. The Hindi adaptation will be helmed by the talented Vikas Bahl, who aims to deliver an exhilarating cinematic experience with this highly awaited project.
Produced by Ajay Devgn, Kumar Mangat, and Abhishek Pathak (Kumar Mangat’s son) under the banner of Panorama Studios, the Hindi remake of “Vash” has generated significant anticipation among audiences eagerly awaiting its release.
