16th April, 2024, Mumbai: Actress Jyoti Saxena is creating waves with her views on the shifting tides of public choices in the fast-paced world of Bollywood, where box office success frequently appears as unpredictable as the monsoon rains. Jyoti Saxena is in a unique position to comment on the changing dynamics of the industry, especially with regard to the relative importance of female-oriented films vs. their male-centric counterparts, as she has two back-to-back films scheduled for release.
Jyoti Saxena praises Crew’s success at the box office.
Jyoti Saxena is leading a growing discussion on the star-studded production of Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan” and the film CREW, which stars Kareena Kapoor, Tabu, and Kriti Sanon. Regarding films that shift the balance in favour of women these days, Jyoti Saxena offers her opinions. “It’s safe to say that female-oriented films work more than male-oriented films,” the actress states. Both the audience’s preferences and the industry’s have changed. They don’t simply want star power or tried-and-true formulas; they want innovation and sincerity. One recent instance is the two successive female-focused films, Ae Watan Mere Watan starring Sara Ali Khan and CREW starring Kareena Kapoor, which astounded the audience with their performances.”
The audience can resonate and connect with these films more now, and they want fresh content that is not copied, says Jyoti Saxena.
After so much promotion and hype, I feel that audiences just don’t connect with films that feel derivative or lack freshness. “For me, it’s very evident that female-led and now-oriented films work more than male-oriented or male-leading films. The audience can resonate and connect with these films more now, and they want fresh content that is not copied. Nowadays, it’s not about celebrity endorsements or staged buzz. Stories that genuinely connect with audiences are becoming increasingly popular because they demand substance. Instead of just heavily publicising their performance and tale, I wish BMCM had put more effort into it.”
There is a shift in the tastes of the fans and audience.
Indeed, this shifting paradigm is demonstrated by the enormous success of Sara Ali Khan’s film and Kareena Kapoor’s film Crew. Powered by an incredible cast and a story that skillfully handles themes of empowerment and womanhood, the movie has captured spectators’ attention and eclipsed the anticipation of star-studded blockbusters like “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.”
We can certainly agree with Jyoti’s assessment of the movie and the decisions made by the audience regarding it, as female-oriented films are becoming more prevalent in the cinema and Bollywood appears to have a more promising and inclusive future than ever.
