“Hawa” (Wind), the movie that revitalised the Bangladeshi film industry, will be shown in Kolkata and the rest of West Bengal on December 16 and in all of India on December 30. The movie, which is also the highest-grossing in Bangladesh, was made under the direction of Mejbaur Rahman Sumon.
The movie will be released throughout India by the Singapore-based business Continental Entertainment Private Ltd (CEPL) through Reliance Entertainment, according to the film’s producing company, Sun Music and Motion Pictures Ltd.
As soon as “Hawa,” a myth, fantasy, and mystery-thriller movie, opened in Bangladeshi theatres on July 29, the country’s audience responded enthusiastically. It is still playing in theatres and bringing in money and praise four months after its debut.
The movie has been widely praised by critics and has been screened at many international film festivals and diaspora gatherings. It has received a nomination for the 95th Academy Awards (Oscars), which will take place in 2019, in the Best International Feature Film category.
The movie currently has a broad distribution in India through Reliance Entertainment after a successful run in Singapore under CEPL.
Ajoy Kumar Kundu, Executive Producer of Sun Music and Motion Pictures Ltd, expressed his excitement for this significant milestone by saying: “With this release, the proud product of some creative individuals of Bangladesh would be able to reach many more Bengali-speaking people all over the world. In our neighbouring nation, there are large audiences for Bengali movies. I believe “Hawa” will be essential in boosting interest in and building a market for Bangladeshi movies here.”
