16th April 2023, Mumbai: Sunny Leone, who has spent more than a decade in the film industry, is set to make her presence felt at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in May 2023. She will be appearing in Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming film, Kennedy, alongside Rahul Bhat. Kennedy is the only Indian film that will be screened at the festival, as part of the Midnight Screening category. Sunny Leone recently spoke about the audition process for the film, describing it as the most stressful exam she has ever faced in her life. She shared that the experience was akin to taking the worst exam of her life.
According to Sunny Leone, she has had a few auditions in Bollywood in her search for career opportunities. Although her initial audition went smoothly, the business aspect of the arrangement did not pan out, and she did not ultimately get the role. Nevertheless, she eventually made her Hindi film debut in 2012 with Pooja Bhatt’s Jism 2, starring alongside Randeep Hooda and Arunoday Singh.
During an interview , Sunny Leone recounted the experience of auditioning for Anurag Kashyap’s film. She revealed that she had anticipated meeting Kashyap and a producer during the audition, but was surprised to find his entire team present, predominantly composed of women. With the assistants and ADs all sitting in the room, Sunny felt very nervous and scared to step out of her comfort zone. The thought of being scrutinised by 10 people simultaneously made her anxious, as she believed they would be judging her performance on the spot and deciding whether or not to cast her in the film.
Sunny further shared that once she completed the audition, Anurag Kashyap turned to his team and asked for their opinion, which made her even more nervous. She compared the experience to the worst exam she had ever taken in her life. However, Anurag was pleased with her performance, and the team unanimously agreed that she had passed the test.
Following the announcement of Kennedy’s selection for the Cannes Film Festival, Anurag Kashyap released the first looks of Sunny Leone and Rahul Bhat’s characters in the film. While Sunny plays the lead character, Kennedy, Rahul Bhat portrays the character of an insomniac ex-cop who is believed to be dead and is searching for redemption. The film is expected to revolve around their characters’ journeys.
