17th June 2023, Mumbai: Shahid Kapoor, a prominent figure in Bollywood, recently found himself in the midst of a social media storm following his comment about the acceptance of Hindi films by the South Indian audience. However, the actor took to Twitter to address the matter and provide a clearer perspective on his statement.
During a Twitter ‘ask me anything’ session conducted to promote his upcoming film, Bloody Daddy, Shahid Kapoor responded to various questions from fans. One user inquired about his previous statement regarding the South Indian audience’s alleged disinterest in Hindi films. In response, Shahid tweeted, “How about a BLOODY qna sess with DADDY,” indicating his willingness to shed light on the topic. Shahid Kapoor reiterated his fondness for South Indian films and emphasized the universal nature of cinema. Shahid Kapoor’s heartfelt revelation unfurled, “I’ve grown enamored with South Indian cinema, delighting in its splendor during the lockdown. In this era of universality, let Indian art flourish boundlessly, uniting artists. Grateful for your love, dear ones.”
The controversy originated from an interview where Shahid Kapoor encouraged audiences from the South to embrace Hindi films. He expressed his belief that just as the Hindi audience wholeheartedly accepts South Indian films, the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada audience should reciprocate by watching Hindi movies. Shahid emphasized the need for unity, urging everyone to work together and contribute to the growth of the film industry. However, Shahid’s comment garnered mixed reactions from social media users. While some appreciated his inclusive approach and the importance of collaboration, others expressed concerns about the necessity of drawing lines between different film industries. The debate highlighted the significance of maintaining an open mind and fostering mutual acceptance to encourage the growth of cinema as a whole.
