3rd June 2023,Mumbai: Before Nora Fatehi gained recognition in the industry, she dedicated herself to honing her skills behind closed doors. Recalling her early days in Mumbai, Nora revealed that she would isolate herself in her room, diligently practicing her body language and accent. She consciously stayed away from parties and social gatherings during that time.
Nora’s commitment to her craft paid off when she recently delivered a mesmerizing performance on stage at an awards ceremony, receiving high praise for her talent and dedication. In an interview with BBC Asian, Nora shared her journey, saying, “Opportunities came unexpectedly, but I was always prepared. I remember sitting locked in my room, practicing my Hindi and immersing myself in Indian television. I refrained from dating or indulging in partying like other girls. Just two months into my journey in India, I knew I had to refine my body language, shed my Canadian accent, and perfect my Hindi. I skipped important events, even my brother’s wedding and birthday, as people would often ask me if I wanted to be the next Katrina Kaif.”
Aware of the unpredictable nature of the industry, Nora emphasized the importance of being ready for any chance that came her way. “Most of the projects I received were last-minute opportunities. I would practice my Hindi and sharpen my skills, preparing myself fully for any potential breakthrough. I understood that I only had one shot, and if I failed, I might be overlooked,” she revealed. When asked about adapting to Indian aesthetics and letting go of her own identity, Nora responded that there was nothing wrong with assimilating with the culture and people of the location where she was working. She shared that even as a young child, she would embrace the local customs and let go of her “Toronto-ness” during her summer vacations in Morocco.
Since entering the world of Hindi cinema, Nora has gained acclaim for her remarkable dance performances in various hit films. Her contributions to popular songs like “Manhari” (from Baahubali: The Conclusion), “Ittage Recchipodham,” and “Temper” (from Puri Jagannadh’s film) have showcased her exceptional talent. She has also made a mark with her sensational rendition of Sushmita Sen’s iconic song “Dilbar.”Nora Fatehi’s transformative journey from practicing behind closed doors to delivering captivating performances stands as a testament to her unwavering dedication and passion for her craft.
