6th March,2024, Mumbai:Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali expressed his thoughts about people dismissing the Hindi film business in 2022 and the Bollywood film industry’s resurgence in the following year. Imtiaz revealed in an interview with DNA India that he frequently heard the statement “Bollywood nahi chalega (Bollywood won’t survive)”. He went on to say that dreamers like him weren’t the reason film died.
“Main dus baar sunn chuka hoon, ab Bollywood nahi chalega,” Imtiaz remarked. As the saying goes, “Ab khatam ho gaya theatre, ab nahi chalega” (I’ve heard many times that Bollywood won’t thrive anymore). “Now that theatre is over, it won’t work,” someone had told me when I first entered the pitch.

“People said the same things when VCR came out even before that,” he continued. Similar views prevailed after the introduction of colour television. People have often stated, “Cinema will shut down,” but that hasn’t happened because dreamers like us watch and make films. Logo ne kaha hai kai baar ki, “Cinema bandh ho jayega,” magar cinema bandh hua nahi, kyuki hum jaise dreamers hai jo dekhte bhi hai and banate bhi hai.
