24th June 2023, Mumbai: Om Raut’s Adipurush has been embroiled in controversy recently, and it doesn’t appear to be going anywhere. In a letter sent on Saturday, the All India Cine Workers Association demanded that a lawsuit be filed against the film’s producers for “hurting religious sentiments” and their continuous efforts to “make money selling discounted tickets across the multiplexes.” Om Raut, the director of Adipurush, Manoj Muntasir, and the movie’s producers were all named as defendants in the letter’s demand for a FIR.
Adipurush has drawn criticism from all over the nation for its poor VFX and offensive speech. As a result of the complaint, the speech in a scene in which Bajrang (Hanuman’s alter ego) says, “Kapda tere baap ka,” was changed to “Kapda teri Lanka ka.”
“This letter is to draw your attention to a Movie called Adipurush which was released on June 16, 2023, in the theatres throughout India, have been hurting the Sentiment of Hindu Religion and the People who Believe and Pray Bhagwan Ram, Maa Sita, and Ram sevak,” the letter stated, according to a reputable publication. “Bhagwan Hanuman, the film currently playing in theatres, continues to portray Bhagwan Ram and the entirety of the Ramayan, and the producers also want to make money by selling discounted tickets across the Multiplexes, which will send the wrong message about our knowledge and faith in the Ramayan. The producers, Writer Manoj Muntasir, and Director Om Raut have turned the dialogues, costumes and the story line (characters which sounds unacceptable to anybody and everybody.”
As part of the request, the letter added, “We are requesting you to lodge a FIR against the director Makers of Adipurush Movie the producers Bhushan Kumar T-Series and others, the director Om Raut and the writer Manoj Muntasir Shukla.”
Adipurush, a Ramayana adaptation produced by T-Series and directed by Om Raut, stars Prabhas as Raghav (based on Rama), Kriti Sanon as Janaki (based on Sita), Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh (based on Ramana), Sunny Singh as Lakshman, and Devdutta Nage as Bajrang. On June 16, it was made available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. Last week, it was launched in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil theatres.
