Ajay Devgn is in the prime of his career after starring in Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Drishyam 2, two of the greatest moneymakers of 2020 and 2022. His next schedule appears to be set up with films in a variety of genres, supporting his claim to be one of the best actors in Hindi cinema. The actor just wrapped up filming for Maidaan, the sport drama directed by Amit Sharma and based on the life of former Indian coach Syed Abdul Rahim. It details the heyday of Indian football, which lasted from 1950 to 1965 and saw India win an Olympic gold medal. The movie’s scheduled release date was February 17, 2023.
The decision to release the movie on a fresh date has been made jointly by Ajay Devgn, Boney Kapoor, and Zee Studios. According to reports, the eagerly anticipated sports drama is now scheduled to premiere on May 12, 2023. “Maidaan is one of my best flicks,” Ajay Devgn confirms the development. “We (the producers, the director, and all of the actors) believe that it needs a significant and appropriate release. We want everything to line up perfectly because overseas studios are handling the film’s VFX. We’ve made the decision to release the movie on May 12, 2023, keeping the movie’s best interests in mind.”
Ajay is credited with giving one of his best performances to date in Maidaan, and the production crew has shown great confidence in the movie’s message throughout the pandemic. In order to provide viewers an uncompromised cinematic experience of this sport drama, the VFX work to recreate the bygone era is currently in full gear. Boney Kapoor spoke candidly about Maidaan earlier in the year. The producer had said, “Mind you, I watched the film without the soul of it, which are the matches, as we shot them very recently. I feel, it’s going to be a landmark film in Ajay Devgn’s career. According to me, it’s his best performance till date and Amit Sharma too has excelled from Tevar to Badhaai Ho and now Maidaan.”
Additionally, he had promised that the drama in this football-themed movie, which is based on some amazing real-life occurrences, would be plentiful. “The good news about Maidaan is that the current generation is unaware of the history and accomplishments of Indian football. We suffered a self-goal loss in the semi-final at the Melbourne Olympics. The screenplay contains a lot of these kinds of surprises. And our movie won’t just be about football; it will also feature a lot of player and family-related emotions,” according to Boney Kapoor.
Following his National Award-winning film Badhaai Ho, Amit Sharma will release Maidaan. AR Rahman composed the film’s music and background score, while Akash Chawla, Arunava Joy Sengupta, and Saiwyn Quadras wrote the script. And here’s another reminder for anyone who missed it – Maidaan, a biopic of Syed Abdul Rahim, is currently scheduled to open nationwide on May 12, 2023.
