Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has expressed his dismay at seeing how the “Bollywood awards mafia” operates and used the example of a “colourful celebrity” to illustrate his point. Some internet users think the director is referring to Ranveer Singh in his most recent tweet because the actor is well-known for his humorous approach and recently won two awards for his role in the sports drama 83.
“I was shocked to know how the Bollywood awards mafia works. For example, this year one colourful star managed to get all 10+ awards despite both of his films being disasters and rejected by audience. This shows how corrupt and ‘for sale’ is the awards mafia. But Bollywood is silent.” Vivek tweeted on Monday. He also replied to his own tweet asking everyone, “Please comment and share your views on Bollywood’s corrupt awards mafia.
The director did not specifically name anyone, but others think Vivek is alluding to Ranveer Singh in the tweet. Someone replied, “I know Bollywood awards are mere joke and Ranveer Singh does not deserve best actor award,” another person remarked. Vicky Kaushal deserved it for Sadar Udham, but the best actor award has nothing to do with a movie’s box office success. In a bad movie, someone might deliver a good performance.
Ranveer Singh, who is renowned for his daring and vibrant sense of style, recently won the best actor prize at an awards ceremony. At the Lions Gold Awards, he won two prizes: actor of the decade and best actor of the year. He posted on Instagram earlier this week, “Delighted to be felicitated with two accolades – “Actor of the Decade” and “Best Actor of the Year” for my performance in 83! “, including photos of himself holding the trophies. I appreciate @lionsclubs constantly recognising my work. @lionrajuvm receives a #LionsGoldAward.
