History
It acquired the inefficient Delhi-based Towers and Transformers Ltd in 1983 and turned it around in a single year. Havells also acquired ECS, Duke Arnics Electronics, Standard Electricals, and Crabtree India between 1997 and 2001. A 50:50 joint venture was established between Havells and the UK-based Crabtree; eventually, Havells bought Crabtree’s share in the JV. For about €200 million, Havells purchased the Sylvania lighting company in Europe in 2007. Havells unveiled ceramic metal-halide lamps in 2010.
Havells bought a majority 51% ownership in Promptec Renewable in April 2015, then in 2018 it increased that stake to 100%. Havells sold Shanghai Feilo Acoustics 80% of Sylvania Malta and Havells Exim Hong Kong in December 2015 for 1,070 crore (US$166.79 million), and two years later sold the remaining 20%. It purchased Lloyd Electricals’ consumer durables division in February 2017 for a total enterprise value of 1,600 crore (US$245.69 million).
