06 May 2023, Mumbai: FIFTY FIFTY, a new female idol group presently breaking records on charts like the US Billboard, the UK Official, and Spotify, has commented on the recent allegations of plagiarism against “Cupid.” On May 4th, they sent the following statement to a South Korean media outlet: “Regarding the accusation of copying of FIFTY FIFTY’s single “Cupid,” which has recently been discussed on social media, we checked with the original artist (composer of “Cupid”) who indicated they were unaware of the artist and the song. There are parallels because of the nature of the song, but they do not consider it to be plagiarism. They value the attention the media has given to the artist FIFTY FIFTY.”
Adam Von Mentzer, Mac Felländer-Tsai, and Louise Udin collaborated on the composition of “Cupid,” the lead song from FIFTY FIFTY’s album “The Beginning: Cupid,” which was released in February of this year. These are the original authors that FIFTY FIFTY has revealed. The Attract side denied contacting the Turkiye musician who was accused of plagiarism when questioned if they had done so. Online, there has recently been talk about ‘Cupid’ being plagiarised. The song “Cupid” and the Turkish song “Sen Aşkmzdan” both have tunes that are somewhat similar. Both songs were released on YouTube in September 2018.
Turkish musician Evrencan Gündüz, who performed the song, is suspected of copying ‘Cupid’ in a post he published on his Instagram account on April 26. The new song “Cupid” by FIFTY FIFTY, which was released in February of this year, set a new record this week by placing 41st on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. The most recent ranking is 18th in the UK’s official singles chart, or “Top 100,” and it is improving.
In addition to the US, UK, Korea, New Zealand, Denmark, Vietnam, Slovakia, UAE, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Canada, and France, Australia (No. 1 in the sped-up version), Morocco, Iceland, Estonia, Israel, and Pakistan (No. 1 in the twin version), and the US, UK, France, “Cupid Twin Ver.-Sped up ver.” was at the top of the charts worldwide as of May 2. This is a 2x speed version that shot to fame on TikTok and served as the catalyst for the FIFTY FIFTY syndrome. “Cupid-Twin ver.” reached peak success, dropped off the charts for a bit, then triumphantly reappeared in the hearts of listeners and took control of charts all over the world.
