7 July 2023, Mumbai: There is an ongoing discussion about the prevalence of brutality and violence portrayed on screen, both in OTT platforms and films. From shows like “Kashmir Files” and “Delhi Crime” to movies like “Talwar” and “Bheed,” these subjects have become prominent. However, not everyone enjoys this content. Madirakshi Mundle, known for her roles in shows like “Jai Hanuman” and “Vighnaharta Ganesh,” shares her perspective on the dominance of violence, action, and crime in the entertainment industry.
Madirakshi expresses that she doesn’t naturally gravitate towards violent content. She watches shows based on her own taste and recommendations from her professional circle. While violence, action, and crime subjects may be prevalent, Madirakshi believes there are numerous other genres and interesting content available beyond these themes. She suggests that the perception of dominance in these genres is subjective and influenced by individual viewing preferences.
It is commonly believed that audiences enjoy violent content. Madirakshi acknowledges that people tend to like certain things more than others, and there is a reason behind it. She explains that most viewers are drawn to well-made escapist content, often referred to as a “dream on celluloid.” However, she also emphasizes that reality plays a role in movies and shows, and when a story resonates with the audience, it doesn’t matter whether it is escapist or based on real events. The connection between people and stories is what truly matters.
Madirakshi highlights that entertainment is a means of expression, and if a show or movie effectively conveys its story, it can have a significant impact on the audience. Whether it is escapist or grounded in reality, a compelling narrative can strike a chord with viewers. While the impact may differ, Madirakshi believes that people ultimately connect with stories, whether they provide an escape from reality or shed light on real events.
