13th May 2023, Mumbai: At some point in their careers, every actor aspires to try their hand at comedy. But not everyone is given that chance. Himani Shivpuri, a veteran performer who has been in numerous films and TV shows, discusses her passion in the genre and why she finds it to be the most challenging to break into. She actually appears in the popular TV sitcom Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, which is still airing. In the programme created by Binaiferr Kohli and Sanjay Kohli’s Edit II Productions, she portrays Kartori Amma.
“Well, in general, I comprehend the situations, immerse myself in the action, and start fulfilling the scene’s demands. Personal life does have an impact, but you have to learn to keep it separate from work and make people laugh, according to her.
She claims that the scenario is humorous. Therefore, hilarity appears if you play appropriately for the circumstances. It’s not the face, and you can’t tell the difference between the words and the face since there are several factors at play. Every element is mixed together, she continues.
She starts by expressing her gratitude for all the love coming her way before talking about the nicest compliment she has ever received for Kartori Amma.
“Well, in Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, people adore my character Katori Amma. They adore my conversation, “Nimbu Nichod Denge,” wherever I go (smiles). People telling me that our show made them smile and gave them a lot of strength during the epidemic when everyone was so depressed has been the finest praise I’ve received so far. Some people have also told me they adore everything I do and that I make them think of their mother, she adds.
Many claim that humour aids in their relaxation and helps them forget about their problems. Himani agrees and continues, “Yes sure, since it impacts you whether you watch a serious show or anything else that is dark. After all, everything you see makes you feel something. Therefore, you experience a bad mood when you encounter something depressing or negative. But you would be content if you were seeing a clean, lighthearted comedy. I therefore believe that it pleases the audience.
Comedy will always have a receptive audience. The actor believes that the quality and approach must therefore be high.
The actor praises Binaiferr, Sanjay, and the Edit II Productions crew, saying that the duo is aware of the audience’s pulse and makes sure that quality is never sacrificed.
“Over the years, our relationship has remained pleasant and kind. In the meanwhile, Edit II Productions approached me numerous times about roles, but I was unable to accept since I lacked dates. But this time, everything turned out as planned. I was a huge fan of their programme Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai as well. I adore how this film’s director and writer collaborate.I was given the chance to work, and the character that was described to me is truly a performer’s dream job. Katori Amma is a character with several facets. It’s a chance of a lifetime for me. I smack my son and flirt with my ex-husband, but I’m also a loving mother, and there’s this amusing dispute between me and my daughter-in-law that has been well received by the public because it is constructive because we resolve our differences in the end. I enjoy portraying the persona, so,” she says.
