Research methodology is often overlooked in discussions on research, both inside and outside of academia. So, the final product is a fruitless exercise in unending word-spinning with excessive quotations. It is worth noting that the quality, not the amount, of research matters most when it comes to planning and development. Those who care about the quality of research must, therefore, carefully consider developing and consistently employing a suitable methodology. While approaches to study may change slightly from one problem to the next, the underlying process is always the same.
This edited volume titled “Research Methods in Social Sciences,” published by EZ Education, India, is a compilation of twelve (12) chapters that explores research from several angles (view, process, and practices). Its other obvious use is as a roadmap for any researcher to follow while they conduct their investigation and ultimately submit their findings in written form. In addition, each chapter is written by an eminent and respected author who has done substantial work in their subject, as can be seen by perusing the profiles of all contributors. Some of the mention-worthy prominent author names are Dr. Somnath Das, Department of Education, CDOE, The University of Burdwan; Dr.Vikas Kundu, Principal, Geeta College of Education, Butana Kundu, Sonepat, Haryana, India; Dr. Jugnu Khatter Bhatia, Principal, Satyug Darshan Institute of Education & Research, Faridabad, India; Dr.Shyamasree Sur, HoD, Dept. of Education, Siddhinath Mahavidyalaya and Dr.Nabin Thakur, Department of Education, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It is good to observe that along with the authors, as mentioned earlier, research scholars Mr. Supriyo Paul from Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Ms. Plabani Roy, from Kolkata, India, have also authored this book.
The book’s twelve chapters include thoughtful and in-depth descriptions of different perspectives and methods for conducting social science research. Nearly all chapters agree that a researcher needs to have a firm grasp of the fundamentals and the skill to use the methodologies in the proper context.
Overall, the editors paint an accurate picture of social science research and the methods used to conduct it. Every researcher should read this book. Both the paper quality and the prices are fair. It can spark a fruitful discussion of the major topics in research techniques. For these reasons, the book will be of considerable importance to researchers and students interested in establishing the correct viewpoint and approach toward research outcomes among academicians, teachers, students, and scholars.
