9th May 2023 Mumbai: ‘The Kerala Story’ has been in the centre of controversy ever since it was released. After mentioning that 32,000 women from Kerala had vanished and joined ISIS in its caravan, criticism erupted.
The manufacturers altered the number to three ladies in response to criticism.

An Incensed Jitendra Awhad claimed that “The Kerala Story” defames women in the state and that the producer of this made-up tale ought to be publicly hanged. He made these remarks while speaking to a news outlet. The West Bengal Trinamool Congress government has announced a ban on the movie, citing the need for “maintenance of peace” and to prevent “hatred and violence” in the region.
Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, explained the purpose of the ban: “It is to avoid any incident of hatred and violence, and maintain peace in the state.”
