Early Life
On May 29, 1954, Pankaj Kapur was born in Ludhiana, Punjab, India. He was the son of homemaker Nirmala Kapur and businessman Krishan Kapur. Poonam Kapur is the only sister he has.
Kapur developed an early interest in acting. He attended the Kundan Vidya Mandir in Ludhiana and took part in school productions there. He came to Delhi to attend the National School of Drama after finishing high school.
Career
Kapur started off in the theatre. In addition to the Theatre Action Group and the Indian People’s Theatre Association, he collaborated with a number of theatre companies. Additionally, he made several television serial appearances, including “Malgudi Days” and “Karamchand.” With the release of “Arohan” in 1982, Kapur made his film debut. In the years that followed, he made appearances in a number of films, including “Gandhi” (1982), “Raakh” (1989), “Ek Doctor Ki Maut” (1991), “Maqbool” (2005), “Omkara” (2006), “Dev D” (2009), and “Haider” (2014). The National Film Award for Best Actor for “Raakh” and the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for “Maqbool” are just a few of the accolades that Kapur has received for his acting. He also won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor (Critics) for “Ek Doctor Ki Maut” and the National Film Award for Best Actor (National Film Award).
