Early life
Arun Yogiraj was born and raised in Mysore. Since childhood, he has been attracted to the arts and wanted to continue his generational work of making sculpture.
Career
Arun Yogiraj completed his studies and used to work as a trainee in the HR department of a private company. After some months, he left his job and followed his passion for making sculpture. In 2008, he started pursuing a career in sculpting. After years of practice and hard work, his work was getting recognized, and he was offered to make some of the greatest projects, such as the statue of the last ruler of the Muysuru Royal Family, the last king Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar. Arun, with his team of nine sculptors, completed the statue in five months. The statue was installed at Hardinge Circle in Mysorein in April 2016.
Later, in 2020, Arun Yogiraj was commissioned by the Mysore Railway to make the statue of ‘The Common Man’, which he completed in 7 days. The statue has been exhibited at the Malgudi Museum in Shivamogga, Karnataka. While, in 2013, his one sculpture of Adi Shankaracharya in Kedarnath was flooded with the tragedy But later, Arun Yogiraj and his team of seven sculptors completed Adi Shankaracharya’s sculpture again in nine months, working 14–15 hours a day. The project was Offered to him from the Czech Republic.
Arun Yogiraj has also created a 30-foot-tall statue of Subhash Chandra Bose using black jade granite stone. The statue was designed by the team of the National Gallery of Modern Art under the Union Ministry of Culture, accompanied by Arun Yogiraj and his team of 48 sculptors. In 2022, he made the 21-foot-tall statue of Lord Hanuman for the Rama temple at Chunchanakatte in Mysore. This took 15 months. In 2023, Arun Yogiraj’s Sculptor of Ram Lalla was selected to be installed in Ayodhya’s Ram. Ayodhya’s trust assigned three sculptor artists to create it. It took Arun two months to visualise the idol and over six months to physically craft a 51-inch-tall idol of Lord Ram.

B.S. Yogiraj and his wife Saraswathi. His father was a sculptor, but he died in 2021 when Arun was busy making Netaji’s statue. Arun was born into a sculptor artist’s family, which has worked in Mysore for five generations. He has one older brother and sister. His brother is also a sculptor named Surya Prakash, and his sister is named Chetna. Arun’s grandfather was also a sculptor artist named Basavanna Shilpi. Arun Yogiraj’s father, B.S. Yogiraj Shilpi, and his grandfather, Basavanna Shilpi, were well-known sculptors. They both have received several honourable awards for their amazing skills. Arun Father received Amarashilpi Jakanachari, and his grandfather received patronage from the king of Mysore. While Arun was interested in sculpting, his mother was against him following the family tradition, but she later accepted.
