22th April 2023, Mumbai: According to various sources, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong has been cast as Nani, Lilo’s older sister and guardian in Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch.
No comment has been made by Disney on this matter.
Lilo is being played by newcomer Maia Kealoha, and in February Zach Galifianakis joined the cast. Naturally, Stitch will be a CG confection. The remake, which is planned to be a major release on Disney+, is directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, the indie darling and Oscar nominee for best animated feature Marcel the Shell With Shoes On.
In the Hawaii-centered story, Lilo, a lonely human girl, and Stitch, an alien that was designed through genetic engineering to be a destructive force, become friends. The two bond over a shared feeling of family and band together to save the day from nosy social workers and pursuing aliens.
Christopher Kekaniokalani Bright wrote the script for the adaptation. Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois wrote the script and directed the first movie, and despite its initial commercial failure, it developed a passionate fan base that has only grown over time.
Production is overseen by Rideback’s Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich. Executive producing is Ryan Halprin, who was in Rideback.
NCIS, Infamously in Love, On My Block, and the feature film West Michigan are among Agudong’s prior television appearances. She has completed her most recent project, playing the title character in the independent film At Your Feet. She was raised on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. Siena Agudong, her younger sister, is well-known for her work on the Disney Channel original feature Upside-Down Magic, the film Alex & Me, the Nickelodeon series Star Falls, and the Netflix adaption of Resident Evil.
Agudong is represented by the Kathy Muller Agency in Hawaii, Trilogy Talent Management, Inc., attorney Howard Fishman of HWHM+F, and the AEFH talent agency.
