21st March, Mumbai: Actor Paul Grant from Star Wars has passed away at the age of 56 after passing out in front of a London train station.
The actor was discovered by police at King’s Cross on Thursday, March 16; he was taken to the hospital but was later declared brain dead.
His family took the decision to turn off his life support system on Sunday, which they publicised (19 March). The reason of death has not yet been disclosed. Daughter Sophie Jayne Grant, 28, said she is “devastated”, and called her father “a legend in so many ways.
He constantly made people smile and laugh, according to a statement she made. He was a huge Arsenal fan and would do everything for anyone.Actor who identified as “the king of the Dwarfs” was 4 feet, 4 inches tall.
Alongside Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill, he co-starred in the 1983 Star Wars movie Return of the Jedi as an unnamed Ewok.Grant also appeared in the films Willow (1988), Labyrinth (1986), and Legend (1985) alongside Tom Cruise, David Bowie, and Val Kilmer. He also filmed an uncredited part for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 2001.
Grant also acted as Hoggle’s stunt double in Brian Henson’s fantasy movie Labyrinth, which he appeared in as a member of the Goblin Corps alongside Shari Weiser and Brian Henson.
Maria Dwyer, Grant’s girlfriend, wrote in a tribute to the actor, “Paul was the love of my life. I know no man who is funnier. He gave my life meaning. Life is never going to be the same without him.”
