8th May 2023, Mumbai: The MTV Movie and TV awards ceremony was a tad bit awkward this time around. Most of the famous faces of the TV/Movie biz weren’t in attendance there in person because of the ongoing writers’ strike. The programme changed from a live event with host Drew Barrymore, who withdrew last week in support of the writers’ strike, to a clip show of prior ceremonies and pre-recorded segments with Barrymore still serving as host. Tom Cruise also sent in a video from the jet he was flying’s cockpit. Nevertheless the evening seemingly went on without any hitch. The Last Of Us was the biggest winner of the night, bagging three trophies in the categories Best Show, Best Duo (Pedro Pascal & Bella Ramsey) and Best Hero (Pedro Pascal).
Other than Pedro Pascal starrer survival thriller, many fan favorite celebrities/movies also took home the golden popcorn trophy. Selena Gomez’s extremely emotional documentary about her struggles with mental health and fame, My Mind & Me, bagged the award for Best Musical Documentary, and Sofia Carson’s military homecoming ballad Come Back home from the movie Purple Hearts snagged Best Musical Moment. More good news came for Taylor Swift in this week. Just a day after her announcement of her version of 2010’s Speak Now album, Miss Swift won Best Song for her American Appalacian Folk song Carolina (from the Daisy Edgar Jones starrer movie Where The Crawdads Sing), the second win for the Golden Globe nominated number.
