8th April 2023, Mumbai: In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Emily Ratajkowski declared that she had essentially given up acting because Hollywood is so “f*cked up.” The supermodel made a significant acting debut in David Fincher’s “Gone Girl,” playing a supporting part alongside Ben Affleck. Ratajkowski portrayed Nick Dunne’s (Affleck’s) student Andie Fitzgerald, who was also having an affair with him. In the years that followed, she went on to star in movies including “We Are Your Friends” and “I Feel Pretty,” but she hasn’t appeared in a movie since 2019’s “Lying and Stealing.”
When Ratajkowski decided to leave the acting industry, she stated, “I didn’t feel like, ‘Oh, I’m an artist performing and this is my outlet.’ When someone asked, “Does she have anything else other than her [breasts]?” I felt like a piece of meat being judged.”
Ratajkowski and her team put a lot of effort into finding acting gigs after “Gone Girl” to demonstrate that she is a “serious actress with longevity.” Even though she tried hard, she was only able to land supporting roles. Over the last five years, she has continued to try out for films including Ruben Stlund’s “Triangle of Sadness,” an Oscar nominee and Cannes winner. Ratajkowski was passed up for the Yaya part in favour of the late Charlbi Dean.
Ratajkowski claimed she came to the realisation that being an actor in Hollywood would require her to become “digestible to powerful men in Hollywood.” Early in 2020, as a result, she fired her manager, commercial representative, and acting agent.
Ratajkowski remarked, “I didn’t believe them. I thought, ‘I can handle getting calls. These choices will be mine to make. I don’t think any of you care about me. And you all despise females.”
Ratajkowski was turned off from Hollywood in part by an encounter she had at a WME party. She went to the event with her husband Sean Bear-McClard, whose “clearly drunk” agent, Pamela Andersom compared her before to hepatitis C.
In an essay from her book, “My Body,” Ratajkowski writes, “I thought about the way that [Bear-McClard] had glided through the room, a room full of men who only two years earlier had been kissing Harvey Weinstein’s ring and encouraging their young female clients to take meetings with him in hotel rooms.” “I hated that my husband had even a passing relationship with these guys.”
Ratajkowski told the Los Angeles Times, “Perhaps that’s why right now I’m not very interested in men’s POVs. Considering that they were lies. I don’t mean infidelity, either. This is a crazy world. Hollywood is broken, kind of. It’s dark, too… Even attending that celebration was difficult for me. The difficulty increased nevertheless because of how closely I was attached to it.”
Bear-McClard, who has been accused of sexual assault by numerous women, is the subject of Ratajkowski’s tense divorce and custody dispute. At the time, Bear-McClard declined to respond to the accusations through a spokeswoman.
