20 May 2023, Mumbai: Building on the success of its predecessor, Bridgerton. With an impressive additional 158.68 million viewing hours, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story has maintained its number-one ranking for the second consecutive week. Within just four days of its premiere, the series accumulated a staggering 148.28 million hours of global viewing time.
The prequel series, created by the talented Shonda Rhimes, is expected to join the ranks of Bridgerton’s first two seasons on Netflix’s list of all-time most-watched shows. Bridgerton’s seasons one and two collectively amassed over 600 million viewing hours each within their first 28 days on the streaming platform. Queen Charlotte, in contrast, features a shorter episode count, with only six hour-long episodes. If it manages to secure a spot on the all-time top-rated list, it will be the only show with such a concise format. Interestingly, the popularity of Queen Charlotte has led to a resurgence in viewership for Bridgerton’s first two seasons as well. Season 1 garnered an impressive 23.88 million viewing hours, securing the fifth spot in the weekly top 10, while Season 2 collected 17.25 million viewing hours, placing it at number nine. This simultaneous rise in viewership aligns with the trend surrounding Queen Charlotte on Netflix.
Shipping George and Charlotte?
Given the overwhelming success and fan enthusiasm surrounding the prequel series, viewers are curious if there will be more of Queen Charlotte and George to come. Shonda Rhimes addressed this in an interview with Deadline, stating that while there have been inquiries, she has not engaged in discussions about it yet. She expressed her fondness for the characters, saying she could envision living with Charlotte and George forever. However, she also emphasized that the story of their complicated and imperfect love has been told in a specific and complete manner. Nevertheless, Rhimes did not rule out the possibility of another season, as she remains open to future opportunities.
