Review: Yaariyan 2 is essentially a misfit in the sequel line-up. Claiming to be a successor to Yaariyan, the movie seems more like a diluted version of “Bangalore Days”. The story revolves around three cousins with tangled destinies and myriad challenges. From a busy husband to a troubled biker, the film is overloaded with plot twists but lacks depth.
The direction is led by Divya Khosla Kumar, who also plays a lead role. Her acting seems rough around the edges. Other actors like Meezaan Jafri come across as rigid, whereas Priya Prakash Varrier and Warina Hussain are hardly noticeable. The directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, who once gave us memorable films, disappoint this time.
The movie’s only redeeming feature might be its stylish wardrobe and a throwback song. Comparing Divya’s performance to her previous roles doesn’t do her any favors, and the presence of Yash Daasguptaa does little to uplift the narrative. Meezaan fails to match up to Dulquer Salmaan’s original portrayal, while other actors feel like mere fillers.
In a time when Bollywood is offering blockbuster hits and pleasant surprises, Yaariyan 2 feels out of place. It may not be a total disaster, but it certainly isn’t a must-watch. The movie’s trailer might have gained millions of views, but that doesn’t translate to a successful cinema experience.
