The Review :
The sadist and empath in us are friends with satisfying survival thrillers. We want to watch the protagonist become enmeshed in a nightmare before celebrating his or her eventual release. Mili, played by Janhvi Kapoor, does this. The 2019 acclaimed Malayalam thriller Helen, an official remake by Mathukutty Xavier, brings you from the pleasant theatre to a cold-storage facility where your chances of survival decrease with each drop in temperature.
Mili Naudiyal, a Dehradun-born graduate student in nursing who is also best friends with her father (Manoj Pahwa), is planning to immigrate to Canada. She decides to work at a restaurant in order to pay the bills because there aren’t many chances in the nursing sector. Mili’s current situation is not miserable, but she longs for a better way of life. Her future, however, appears to be pretty nonexistent as a result of an accident that tests her ability to survive.
The movie skillfully depicts Mili’s private world, with a particular focus on her adoring father and her tender but immature lover (Sunny Kaushal). When she is fighting for her life in a frigid battle that causes her foot to break and her skin torn, the stakes are raised. As it contrasts with a girl who seems to be weak, the icy menace appears to be more intimidating. This is another situation where Kapoor’s on-screen ability to personify vulnerability is useful. The actor, who has developed immensely with Mili, gives the part of the character a genuine earnestness and social clumsiness. Mili must use all of her stubborn willpower to survive the night in the freezer, even when the temperature drops below minus 15 degrees.
This adaption is primarily a father-daughter narrative, but it is also a tale of survival. Pahwa, who frequently switches between the roles of an elderly father and a notorious child in Naudiyal, adds his expertise and genius to the role. Other supporting actors, including Jackie Shroff in a special cameo, improve the movie with their eccentricities and solid work.
Both a suspenseful, tense thriller and a heartwarming tale of optimism are presented by Xavier.
