Review: After the success of ‘Farzi’, Shahid Kapoor is back with another OTT project ‘Bloody Daddy’, now streaming on Jio Cinema for free. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, this film is an adaptation of the 2011 French movie ‘Sleepless Night’, which was also remade in Tamil as ‘Thoongaa Vanam’ in 2015, starring Kamal Haasan.
Thanks to the man who suggested the makers to release this film on OTT. Bloody Daddy delivers an impressive dose of action that will surely captivate action film enthusiasts. Yeah we can call the “Sasta John Wick” of India. The cinematography stands out with its visually stunning scenes, adding to the overall appeal of the movie. The action sequences are well-executed and accompanied by top-notch music, creating an adrenaline-pumping experience for the audience.
However, where the film falls short is in its storytelling and dialogue. The plot and screenplay lack depth, leaving the audience wanting more substance and character development. The narrative fails to engage viewers and leaves them feeling disconnected from the story.
While the film excels in its action sequences and technical aspects, the direction seems to have lost its way at times. The overall direction could have been tighter, ensuring a more cohesive and engaging experience for the viewers.
What Works: The film delivers impressive action sequences that are well choreographed and become the highlight of the movie. The background score complements these sequences, elevating them to another level and providing an absolute treat for the audience. Additionally, the camera work is spectacular, adding a stylized yet realistic touch to the action scenes.
What not Works: On the downside, the screenplay, dialogues, and overall flow of the film could have been better. Some of the action sequences appear unrealistic, diminishing the overall impact.
Performances: Shahid Kapoor’s performance is commendable, his character seems reminiscent of his portrayal in ‘Kabir Singh’, which doesn’t quite fit the tone of ‘Bloody Daddy’.
Diana Penty delivers a decent performance as the honest narcotic officer but lacks sufficient opportunities to showcase her acting prowess.
Ronit Roy, known for his dark and gritty roles, steals the show with his scenes, particularly those with Sanjay Kapoor, which are hilariously entertaining. Rajeev Khandelwal is the perfect from every side in the film.
Unfortunately, Sanjay Kapoor’s role feels cut short, leaving much to be desired.
Young Atharva, who plays Shahid’s on-screen son, delivers a good performance, but the movie fails to explore their father-son relationship as deeply as it should.
Direction: Ali Abbas Zafar, known for his expertise in the action genre, could have pushed the boundaries further, but unfortunately, he restrains himself, resulting in one of the weakest projects of his career.
Overall Review: Bloody Daddy’ falls short on storytelling and can be somewhat monotonous. While it delivers stellar action, the plot feels underdeveloped, focusing more on the action sequences rather than the characters. Nevertheless, the performances, action sequences, and background score are top-notch, hold the film for the audiences. More attention to dialogue and scriptwriting could have elevated the film to greater heights.
