23rd August 2023, Mumbai: Rajinikanth’s film “Jailer” continues to make waves at the box office, even as it enters its second week. While the film’s pace has slowed down slightly, it remains on track to cross the remarkable ₹300 crore milestone in the Indian domestic box office. Despite the deceleration, “Jailer” maintains its strong performance and is projected to achieve this feat before the weekend arrives.
Jailer Box Office Collections
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, “Jailer” made its cinematic debut on August 10 with a robust opening collection of ₹48.35 crore. It sustained its momentum, accumulating ₹42 crore on its initial Sunday and amassing a staggering ₹235.85 crore during its inaugural week. However, after achieving a collection of ₹19.2 crore on its second Sunday, the film exhibited a gradual deceleration. Following a collection of ₹5.7 crore on its second Monday, the figures dipped further to approximately ₹4.5 crore on its second Tuesday.
Crosses Robot 2.0 Collections
Despite this relatively slower collections, “Jailer” persists in creating history within the cinematic sphere. The film recently surpassed the monumental ₹500 crore gross milestone on the worldwide box office. Notably, it marks Rajinikanth’s second film to achieve this feat, with his previous 2018 film “2.0” achieving similar success.
Jailer Overview and Storyline
“Jailer” narrates the story of a retired police officer who employs his connections with former inmates to rescue his son from the clutches of a notorious gangster. The movie boasts an ensemble cast featuring Rajinikanth, Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, and Vasanth Ravi, with notable cameo appearances from Jackie Shroff, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Kishore. Additionally, Tamannaah Bhatia graces the screen with a special dance number titled “Kaavaalaa,” which has garnered substantial attention on the internet.
Rajinikanth’s Visit to Various Temples
Amid the film’s journey, Rajinikanth embarked on a spiritual trip to various religious destinations across Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh. Following this pilgrimage, he returned to Chennai. During his journey, he visited the revered Ram Janambhoomi and Hanuman Garhi temples in Ayodhya, accompanied by his wife, Latha Rajinikanth. Rajinikanth’s visit to Lucknow also included his presence at a “Jailer” screening.

His meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath raised eyebrows and stirred a minor controversy. Rajinikanth explained that his gesture of touching the feet of spiritual leaders or ascetics, regardless of their age, was customary for him. He clarified, “It is my habit to touch the feet of Yogis or Sanyasis and take their blessings, even if they are younger than me. I have done that only,” in response to queries from reporters.
