11 November 2023, Mumbai: Tamil superstar Vijay’s blockbuster film, “Leo,” which had been dominating the box office for over three weeks, is now facing stiff competition as Karthik Subbaraj’s “Jigarthanda DoubleX” enters theaters. The film’s box office earnings are beginning to taper off as it enters its 23rd day in theaters, with Rs 50 lakh in collections, bringing the domestic total to Rs 335.65 crore.
Impact of “Jigarthanda DoubleX”
The release of Karthik Subbaraj’s “Jigarthanda DoubleX” has led to a decline in “Leo’s” performance. Currently, “Leo” only has 81 shows in Chennai, and the film reported an occupancy rate of just 35.33% in the region on a recent Friday. Karthik Subbaraj’s new film achieved Rs 1.61 crore on its opening day.
Leo’s Impressive Worldwide Collection
Despite facing competition, “Leo” has an impressive worldwide collection, amounting to Rs 596.7 crore. It is now only a few crores away from surpassing Rajinikanth’s “Jailer,” which collected Rs 604 crore. “Leo” currently holds the third spot as the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time, following Rajinikanth’s “2.0” and “Jailer.”
Controversies Surrounding “Leo”
“Leo” faced controversies even before its release, leading to minimal promotion by the actor Vijay. The film’s audio launch was canceled, but Vijay addressed these issues during the film’s success meet. He urged audiences to view the film objectively and recognize cinema as a form of entertainment with its own dynamics of good and bad characters.
Vijay’s Message to the Audience
Vijay’s message to the audience during the film’s success meet emphasized the need to see cinema as a form of entertainment, encouraging viewers to differentiate between characters and not to take it personally. His message emphasized the global perspective on cinema.
