Since its theatrical release on 30th September 2022, The Kannada movie Kantara has been making headlines. The movie proved itself at the box office. In fact, Kantara surpassed KGF 1 to become the second highest-grossing Kannada film after KGF 1. With a budget of ₹16 crores, Kantara has earned ₹250.5 crores within almost a month of its release.
Kantara is written and directed by Rishab Shetty and produced by Vijay Kiragandur. The film stars Rishab Shetty, Kishore, Achyuth Kumar, Promod Shetty, and Sapthami Gowda in pivotal roles.
In exchange for peace and happiness, a king in 1847 makes a deal with Panjurli Daiva/Bhoota to donate some of his forest territories to the local tribespeople. In 1970, the king’s heir becomes so enamored with wealth that he demands the tribespeople return the land.
As the forest department encroaches on the woodland area, the villagers start to have problems. Then the movie marks the entry of Shiva who revolts against the landlords and the forest department.
The movie is well appreciated by cinema lovers and Film critics all over. Initially, the film was released in Kannada and was later dubbed into other languages due to its continuously increasing popularity.
As the screenplay moves at a rapid pace, the first half of the film is thoroughly engaging. It has a stunning production design and arresting visuals that will keep you captivated. The story featured actors like Achyuth Kumar and Kishore Kumar in prominent roles. Rishab Shetty is good on his part but definitely, this is not his finest performance. It looked like he had too much on his plate being the director, writer, and actor on the set.
The film does allow the audience to laugh out loud with humorous scenes of Rishab Shetty. Moreover, the audience can expect to see a beautiful love angle between Rishabh and Sapthami Gowda.
The only slightly negative part about the movie is that during the second half, the movie becomes very predictable. Hence, the audience may lose interest.
Kantara was released in Hindi on October 14th. Initially, the film started slow but picked up speed with time. The movie (in Hindi) reached another milestone when it finished 13 days in theatres. The Hindi dub of Kantara has outperformed Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1’s lifetime collection, according to trade expert Ramesh Bala.
All in all, the movie Kantara has become the perfect Diwali gift for all film lovers. Seeing the progress of the movie, we never know when Kantara will surpass even the collection of KGF 1.
