Health Struggles and Final Moments
Ustad Rashid Khan’s health battle began when he was admitted to a private hospital in east Kolkata on November 22 last year after suffering an intracerebral haemorrhage. The renowned vocalist was put on a ventilator, and despite the medical team’s efforts, he could not be revived.

Survived by his wife and two children, Ustad Rashid Khan left an indelible mark on the world of Indian classical music. He received several accolades during his illustrious career, including the Banga Bibhushan, the Padma Shri in 2006, and the Padma Bhushan in 2022. Mamata Banerjee emphasized Khan’s connection with West Bengal, stating, “He was born in Uttar Pradesh but he used to love West Bengal and settled here. His body would be kept in a mortuary. There would be a gun salute on Wednesday afternoon. The last rites would be performed thereafter.”
