China and Bollywood have always been connected. Chinese people have been deeply rooted for us, adoring our Indian culture and producing Indian movies. They have now demonstrated their devotion by selecting one of Bollywood’s most famous dance songs, “Jimmy Jimmy,” as their cover version of the anthem for their indirect protest. To know what has happened, scroll down.
For those who don’t know, Bappi Lahiri composed the Jimmy Jimmy song, which featured the legendary dancer and actor Mithun Chakraborty. One of the greatest Disco tunes ever is this one, and it will always be in style. However, it only recently began to appear in our feeds.
Using the Bollywood song “Jimmy Jimmy,” citizens in China are expressing their displeasure with the strict zero-Covid policy instituted by the Xi Jinping administration and keeping them cooped up at home. Jie mi, Jie mi means “give me rice” in Mandarin.
People are currently creating reels and videos on it using empty containers to show the lack of rice and other necessities. These are now popular on the Chinese social media sites TikTok and Douyin.
People protesting against the government have come under fire from Chinese security personnel. Even though Covid instances have been discovered in China’s neighbourhoods once more, very few of them have tested positive for the virus. But the government ordered a lockdown in every neighbourhood, which was a major difficulty for everyone.
Well, this isn’t the first time we’ve noticed China favouring Indian entertainment or culture. Chinese audiences have flocked to see Indian films like 3 Idiots, Secret Superstar, Hindi Medium, Dangal, and Andhadhun.
