Two young Pakistani girls went missing last week from their Korangi, Karachi, home. Police learned that these young women had not been abducted but had instead escaped to visit their favourite K-pop band, BTS. They had made arrangements to go to South Korea, and this week, after a thorough investigation, authorities located them in Lahore.
Here are some specifics on how the police located these young girls after they ran away from their homes :
According to the police report, on January 2, 2023, two girls, ages 13 and 14, vanished from their Karachi home. The elder girl visited her younger friend’s house, where they spent some time outside. When their fathers went looking for the girls, they were not to be found. The father suspected that unidentified attackers may have kidnapped the daughters or forced them into a dangerous scenario. This is the reason the father filed a missing person case for his daughter, who is 13 years old.
When police were called, they began by thoroughly searching the 13-year-old before realising the teenagers’ plan to run away to South Korea and see their favourite K-pop group BTS. A 13-year-old girl’s diary was discovered during this thorough police investigation, and it contained information about their preparations.
In an interview with CNN, police claimed that the notebook contained information such as train schedules and information about another buddy who was also preparing to go with the two adolescent females. Additionally, they planned their railway route to Islamabad in this handwritten journal. This other buddy was questioned by the police. Additionally, they asserted that the pair intended to travel with their relative Naufil.
In order to further confirm that they left their homes in order to travel to South Korea and join the K-pop phenomenon BTS, the police also conducted a forensic study of their deleted internet history and WhatsApp conversations. The girls did extensive web study on South Korea, including what to do, what to wear, what to avoid, and other information. They conducted a Google search and adjusted their plans accordingly.
Following the discovery of this information, the authorities launched an active search for the pair, whose whereabouts were determined to be in Lahore, 1200 kilometres from their residence. The females took a train to Lahore. The two teenage females were later discovered to be in police custody in Lahore by the police who were in charge of the inquiry.
A police officer on patrol came across the pair at a train station. They appeared to be in bad shape and were attempting to pass for boys to avoid attention. When the pair was first questioned, they expressed dissatisfaction with their parents’ lack of concern and a desire to live their lives independently. At this time, the girls are safe and sound.
The decisions and dangers taken by the girls were not particularly shocking, according to a cultural journalist who talked to CNN about the issue, because “stans” are known to do everything for their idols. This is why it’s crucial to have a secure and controlled environment for fan girls so that they may freely interact with one another and discuss the same.
The senior superintendent of Karachi stated that plans had been made with the Lahore police to organise the return of these adolescent girls to their homes. In a video statement, he further advised parents to keep an eye on their kids’ online activity.
