20th October 2023, Mumbai: The Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2023 is all set to happen from October 27 to November 5. This year, there’s a special focus on South Asian cinema, promising an exhilarating experience for movie lovers.
Opening Film
Topping the list, the festival will open with “The Buckingham Murders”, a much-anticipated film featuring Kareena Kapoor and directed by Hansal Mehta. This film is the result of a collaboration between producers Ekta Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor.
Star-Studded Lineup
Film enthusiasts can look forward to an impressive array of movies, including Hirokazu Kore-eda’s “Monster”, Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro”, Anurag Kashyap’s “Kennedy”, and Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall”. The festival will also feature 40 world premieres, 45 Asia premieres, and 70 South Asia premieres spread across 13 diverse sections.
World Cinema Selection
The World Cinema segment will feature global gems like Wim Wenders’ “Perfect Days”, Pedro Almodóvar’s “Strange Way of Life”, and Ken Loach’s “The Old Oak”, to name a few.
Gala Premier South Asia
In this category, moviegoers can catch Anurag Kashyap’s “Kennedy”, Tahira Kashyap’s “Sharmajee ki Beti”, and Rajat Kapoor’s “Everybody Loves Sohrab Handa”.
South Asia Competition
Films under this segment include Sumant Bhat’s “Mithya” and Fidel Devkota’s “The Red Suitcase”, among others.
Focus South Asia (Non-Competition)
Titles in this section feature Varun Grover’s “All India Rank” and Karan Tejpal’s “Stolen”.
Icons South Asia
This category will present films like Vikramaditya Motwane’s “Indi(r)a’s Emergency” and Prasanna Vithanage’s “Paradise”.
After Dark Special
This unique section, curated by Jongsuk Thomas Nam, will feature the 20th-anniversary version of “Oldboy” and other intriguing movies like “Late Night with the Devil”.
Recap Segment
For those who missed some gems from the past, this section brings back movies from 2020 and 2022 like Aparna Sen’s “The Rapist”.
Movie lovers are in for a treat with such an eclectic and diverse selection. The Jio MAMI Film Festival 2023 is a celebration of cinema sharing diverse narratives and perspectives from around the world.
