18 May 2023, Mumbai: Sunita Ahuja, the wife of Bollywood actor Govinda, found herself at the centre of a controversy when she recently visited the revered Mahakal temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Photos and videos of her entering the sanctum sanctorum of the temple with her handbag, in violation of the temple rules, went viral on the internet. This incident sparked outrage among devotees, who demanded strict action against her for flouting the regulations.
Sunita Ahuja’s visit to the Mahakal temple created a massive stir as she was seen entering the garbha-griha (sanctum sanctorum) with her handbag, which is strictly prohibited for devotees. Devotees are generally not allowed to carry any bags inside the temple premises, let alone the sanctum sanctorum. The incident raised questions about the temple’s security system and how Sunita managed to bypass the guards with her bag.
Once the photos and videos of Sunita with her bag inside the temple went viral, citizens expressed their displeasure and demanded strict action against her for flouting the rules. They also raised concerns about the temple’s security system, highlighting the need for a more stringent approach. Consequently, the issue was escalated to the temple authorities, who reprimanded the guards for the major security breach. Temple administrator Sandeep Soni acknowledged the lapse on the guards’ part and assured that strict action had been taken against them.
Furthermore, he stated that an investigation would be conducted by reviewing the CCTV footage, and appropriate action would be taken against Sunita as well.
Govinda and Sunita’s union is a love-cum-arranged marriage that has stood the test of time. They tied the knot on March 11, 1987, and initially kept their relationship a secret. Govinda once shared his scepticism about marrying Sunita when she first expressed her fondness for him. At the time, Govinda was 21 and Sunita was only 15, which led him to question the seriousness of their relationship. Nevertheless, Sunita’s confidence and determination prevailed, and the couple has now been happily married for 36 years. They are proud parents to two children, Tina and Yashvardhan
