09 May 2023, Mumbai: There are different stages in everyone’s career. While some stay on the same path, some explore different avenues. Actor-producer Akashdeep Sabir shares his love for his craft, struggles and the kind of parts and projects he is in the lookout for
“It’s a bit early to speak. This second innings has just begun. I have already worked with some top directors and actors, so I am extremely happy with that part of my journey,” he says.
Looking back at the struggles and missed opportunities, Akashdeep adds, “Fortunately I have not had to struggle much. I’ve been an actor by chance in the second innings. I was chosen as the face for Facebook for its ad campaign and then one by one, I got ad film offers and soon film and OTT offers came. So there has been no struggle I must say.”
The number of mediums, platforms and online channels has increased, so has the competition. If you don’t take up one opportunity, there are 100 people ready to grab it.
“That’s the way it should be. Nothing should come easy if we have to ensure the best. So many platforms also means lots of work so it works both ways. More opportunities are also good for aspiring actors,” he says.
About the kind of opportunities he wants to explore, Akashdeep adds, “Now I’m Looking for meaty roles. Selfiee and The Night Manager are nice parts but the way forward will be to say no to one or two scene roles, no matter how important they are. This will not help me in my journey. The wait gets frustrating and learning to say ‘NO’ is difficult, but that’s the only correct approach for me.”
The actor would love to do the role Ram Kapoor played in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain. “I think I will nail it. But I guess I’m overage (laughs). There are other dream roles too, but as long as they are primary parts, I’m open to doing them,” he says.
For betterment of your craft, Akashdeep updates himself by watching all kinds of cinema. “I practise a lot and auditioning so much is constantly keeping me on my toes. Today’s style of acting is more real. Melodrama and loud performances are a thing of the past. So one has to keep one’s eyes and mind open and adapt with time to stay relevant,” he adds.
What is that film/series/show that you have seen many times and consider your reference textbook? “Life is Beautiful is a film I can’t forget. Fedora left its mark. Narcos, Mera Naam Joker, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Munnabhai MBBS, Bajrangi Bhaijaan…so many are there in my list.. Lately I Loved Jubilee by Vikramaditya Motwane and now really want to work with him. Anuraag Basu makes good movies and I want to work with him too. I’m lucky to have already worked with Karan Johar, Meghna Gulzar, Rohit Shetty, Rohit Dhawan, Raj Mehta, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Anand Rai and many good directors,” he says.
