Kuttey, the first Bollywood film to be released in 2023, has been a huge box office failure. Not that nobody was holding out much hope for it, given that the movie arrived with hardly any anticipation. Even with modest traction, one would have expected at least 10-15 crores given the level of credentials involved. Even though it would have been an utter failure, it would have indicated that at least a little portion of the audience had visited the theatre to see the movie.
None of it occurred because the first day only brought in 1 crore and there was no subsequent growth, bringing the weekend’s total to 3.20 crores. Worse was yet to come for the movie as only 85 lakhs more were received in the ensuing weekdays, which caused the first week to collapse at a catastrophic 4.05 crores. This kind of total would have represented the movie’s opening-day takings before the epidemic, with the expectation that the weekend’s rise would lead to a turnaround. However, you will know the outcome if this number appears on the first day.
The movie would have been utterly gone from theatres if any Bollywood release had occurred this week. However, Pathaan won’t debut until this Wednesday, giving the movie five more days to generate some type of revenue. As the audience interest in the Arjun Kapoor and Tabu starrer is simply not there, it would only be of academic interest. The movie’s ultimate take will be only 4.25 to 4.35 crores, and after that, an immediate OTT release might be anticipated. With any luck, it would attract a lot more viewers to the digital medium.
Final numbers awaited are still awaited.
