Nearly Rs. 40 crores in total box office receipts, plus Rs. 21 crores in distributor share, were Dhamaka’s first week’s earnings at the Indian box office. With the exception of the Coastal Andhra region, which is a little short but will be covered over the weekend, the movie has become a box office success, recouping the investment of most of its distributors. 21 crores were paid for the movie’s theatrical rights in India, including 19 crores in Telugu-speaking areas.
By Telugu film standards, the movie performed admirably throughout the weekdays. There was a decline from Monday, although Monday was playing at high levels due to some holiday leftover demand, and even then, the declines weren’t too far from the normal Telugu masala film reductions. The second Friday’s business was unchanged from Thursday; but, with New Year’s Day coming up tomorrow, there could be a dramatic increase in sales, probably up to Rs. 11–12 crores for the second weekend.
The box office collections of Dhamaka at the Indian box office are as follows:
Friday – Rs. 7.50 crores
Saturday – Rs. 7.15 crores
Sunday – Rs. 8.50 crores
Monday – Rs. 5.85 crores
Tuesday – Rs. 4.25 crores
Wednesday – Rs. 3.25 crores
Thursday – Rs. 2.75 crores
Total – Rs. 39.25 crores
The Telugu cinema industry had a challenging year in 2022, but Dhamaka is bringing it to a successful conclusion. Sankranti releases typically signal the beginning of a successful year for the industry, but this year’s Sankranti fell short since the Omicron wave forced some of the biggest releases to be postponed at the last minute. Then there was the whole problem of Andhra Pradesh’s ticket costs, which would have hampered Bheemla Nayak’s chances of being a hit.
With RRR, there was a significant victory, but Radhe Shyam, Liger, and Acharya also experienced significant setbacks. With the exception of three weeks in August and sporadic laxation with artists like Major, Masooda, and HIT 2, the rest of the year was largely dry.
