19th October 2023, Mumbai: Entrepreneur Raj Kundra’s forthcoming movie, UT69, is scheduled for release on November 3. The film’s trailer was unveiled on Wednesday, offering a sneak peek into Raj’s life. Featuring him in the lead role, the film revolves around his experiences in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail due to his alleged connection with a pornographic content case. Notably, the trailer starts with a ‘breaking news’ segment covering Raj’s arrest in 2021.
In the trailer for UT69
Raj Kundra, initially known as Shilpa Shetty’s husband or a former ‘Bigg Boss contestant,’ grapples with continuous mockery from fellow inmates and law enforcement officers within the jail. Raj, making his acting debut in the film, encounters challenging situations, including a stampede-like scenario. The trailer also highlights the unforeseen bonds Raj forges with fellow inmates during his time behind bars.
In July 2021, Raj faced arrest on charges of purportedly producing pornographic content and was subsequently granted bail in September of the same year. He was charged under applicable sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Indecent Representation of Women (Prevention) Act, and the Information Technology Act.
The creators stated alongside the trailer on YouTube, “UT69 offers a satirical perspective on the actual events from businessman Raj Kundra’s days in Arthur Road jail. He considers this period the most challenging in his life. The movie portrays this phase and is inspired by true events.”
Description of Film
In the previous month, Raj had unveiled the release date of his movie, UT69, through a humorous video featuring filmmaker Farah Khan and stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui. Raj had confirmed that the film is inspired by a true story. Speculations had also arisen regarding Farah Khan’s involvement as the director.
However, all uncertainties were dispelled during the trailer launch event held in Mumbai on Wednesday. It was revealed that ad film director Shahnawaz Ali had directed the project. The film is supported by AA Films, produced by SVS Studios, and co-produced by THE BIGGER PICTURE FILMS.
“This is more than just a movie for me! While it’s a closure of sorts, you will see through my eyes a story about survival, friendships, and relationships inside India’s most notoriously crowded infamous detention centre, also known as Arthur Road Jail,” Raj Kundra shared his thoughts on his inaugural film.
